Yes, yes, I know, it is only national politics this applies to and I am mostly affected by local decisions and can make a real difference in the local elections if I choose to do so. Thank you to the positive pundits and bless you for keeping the faith in even the worst situations. However, local politics can not be widely debated on a large scale and if we can’t complain about it with our friends, who cares anyway?
The energy leading up to the November elections is stale to say the least. I feel many, including myself, are afraid to engage and put our hopes into either of the front runners because my opinion does not matter anyway. Sadly, I myself, learned this lesson the very hard way. I do recall staying up until past midnight waiting for Hillary to be crowned queen of our broken land as I was nearly promised by every “credible” poll out there as she had 90% odds of winning – we were conned into believing we were holding a royal flush. I even wore for the first and last time, my white tailored business jacket made of Thai silk on this fateful day as this was a passive sign of solidarity and hope shared by many women like me.
As we all know, she lost the election badly, but even worse, our Country lost completely. I do not know if anyone has really thought about how that night affected the lives of so many American women and girls.
While watching the map on my television screen light up red all-over aside from little blue dots in big cities, I had to pinch myself to make sure I was not having a nightmare – truly. I had learned many, many years ago about the possible exploitation of large, populous cities swaying electoral decisions but never imagined even the slightest possibility of an exploitation by teeny tiny small-town America uniting and winning a Presidential election. Part of me thinks it is brilliant, however, the means to accomplish this, as we all have learned over the past four years was not only corrupt but criminally bad to the point of likely high treason. How is this not concerning to everyone? Almost as distasteful as the effort to cover-up the true means of this impossible accomplishment.
So what are we left with. Citizens once passionate to do good and make real and lasting change deem the system they have grown up to believe superior in every way merely now incurable and insoluble. That is so damn sad. I have already decided it does not matter what I think, how I vote, if I campaign, Trump will win again. I prefer to save my energy and passion for a possible task thank you.
You see it’s not as simple as sweeping our political indiscretions under the rug which Americans have done since our founding fathers stepped in; democracy only works when the voters believe in their power and influence and now we have a likely real majority who know for a fact that their vote does not count. Despite the efforts of so many good and noble, our courageous and selfless soldiers who gave their lives to defeat dictators and spread democracy around the world. What are we supposed to tell our children? The intentions were good but things just went wrong and I’m sorry?
Sure it is not to the point of innocent citizens being murdered and/or fed to lions (at least I hope not) and I am grateful and content to be an American but this land was found on the principles that we can always do better and be better as a collective people. I will also say, I respect President Donald Trump for standing up for his constituents even when it was highly unfavorable to his own personal reputation – that is damn bold and clearly he has earned his loyal base no matter how “ignorant,” “un-fair,” and/or just plain “white-trash” his choices may seem to some. In that regard, I believe other politicians should learn from him, take the bad with the good and persevere for the sake of future generations.
