Yes, I did have to check my spelling. So, as you may know, I am embracing the modern solopreneur movement whole- heartedly. It does not mean I do not want a boss, having a professional mentor is a must for most young women with real ambition and I would be no where without mine. Keep in mind ladies and gentlemen, you don’t know what you don’t know, but also, choose wisely and keep it to yourself.
Furthermore, being a solopreneur does mean that you have choices; when you want to work, how hard, where you work, cherry picking clients, colleagues, marketing, travel… but it’s certainly not all glamorous, roses and sunshine. There are good and bad days and it can be challenging to keep the faith.
Having a supportive family and/or a mastermind group seems essential for immediate success. It is rather ugly and tragic how many people do not have this. The stingy, petty, and outright malicious colors of the one’s you love have a way of appearing once you choose to follow your dreams and take that leap of faith especially if you are around highly competitive people. Don’t take it personal, however, this is always a reflection of their own failures and not your own.
The other huge benefit is the cost savings for many solopreneurs; you no longer have to invest in an office, no more paying for gas to and from work, no more hefty price tag when it comes to hiring and employee wages, expensive meals eating out, not to mention the emotional struggle feeling like a slave to your desk, boredom, office politics, truly, I would not trade it for the world. I am keeping the faith that the support will come with success. As I have explained to many, this is not an instant gratification road and it is thus important to stay strong and keep fighting even when it seems like you’re getting no where fast.
I can not stress enough, we are living in times of collaboration over competition. It is not one woman succeeds while ten fail, it is, all eleven can be successful and should support one another no matter what; this is the only way for our gender to thrive in business and achieve that elusive equality factor. Support her no matter what and keep your negative opinions and doubts to yourself.
